A PASSION FOR MUSIC
Brought up in the rich tradition of Indian classical music, Padmaja a graduate in Microbiology, opted for a career in music. She moulded her God gifted golden voice with total dedication and hard work. She quickly grew up to become an extremely versatile singer.
Today she sings both Hindustani Classical ( Khayal, Thumri, Tappa etc.) and the light popular variety ( Gazals, Geet, Bhajans etc.) with poise and grace.

HER SOURCES OF INSPIRATION
Padmaja started learning Hindustani Classical music under the guidance of the legendary Vocalist Padma Bhushan Pandit Jasraj.

She took further training from the great Sarangi maestro Padma Bhushan Pandit Ram Narayan.

She also has had the invaluable guidance of the great Music Director Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

HER HIGH NOTED ACHIEVEMENTS

Padmaja, a 'TOP' grade artiste of AIR, has rendered Light and semi classical music programs over AIR, Doordarshan , ZEE and other channels.
She has performed in various prestigious conferences all over India and also had many successful concerts in UK, USA, Canada and UAE.

Recipient of PADMASHRI Award in January 2001.
Recipient of S D Burman Award for best playback singer, 1980 Received Ideal Citizen Award, 1985.
Miya Tansen Award, for best classical based song in Marathi film, 1988.

Prestigious Bharat Nirman Award, 1988.
Manik Verma Puraskar in November 2000.

CASSETES & CDs

Her three Albums titled 'HEE SHUBHRA PHULANCHI JWALA', 'RANG BAWARA SHRAVAN' & 'GHAR NACHALE NACHALE' consisting marathi poems of high literary value written by poets like Kusumagraj, Indira Sant, Vinda Karandikar, Mangesh Padgaonkar, Shankar Ramani, Suresh Bhat, Grace & Shantabai Shelke are very popular with connoisseurs of music and marathi literature.

In her album titled 'GEET NAYA GATA HOON', Padmaja has a special priviledge of composing 2 poems and singing 8 poems written by Honorable Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Albums of Gazals written by such great poets like Daag, Jigar, Ahmed Faraz, Dr. Bashir Badr etc. & Bhajan's composed by Shri Anup Jalota are also in the making.
