‘Katyar to support Mandke Foundation’ The reputed Heart Surgeon Dr. Nitu Mandke left behind ‘Mandke Foundation’ and to support that financially, Bharat Natya Mandir of Pune organized 3 shows of the play ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ on 27th July 2003 in Pune and collected Rs. 11 lakhs. In order to enable Parlekars and Thanekar to support the noble cause, two shows have been organized at Dinanath on 11th October and two at Gadkari Rangayatan Thane, on 12th October. The sale of tickets begins from 5th October at Dinanath Theater and Gadkari Rangayatan.Bharat Natya Mandir, Pune has once again staged this musical drama ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusali’ written by the late Purushottam Darvekar and which had reached the peak of popularity. Charudatta Aafle in the role of Khansaheb & Ram Sathe in the role of a poet are the leading artists. Mandke Foundation has requested the Parleites that the shows go housefull to bring the substantial financial aid required for Mandke Foundation. ICICI Bank starts its branch in Parle ICICI Bank, prominent and specialized in developing modern technology banking, recently opened its branch on Hanuman Road in a style with inauguration function. The directors inform that this branch is to work with the objective of developing the future of the young generation on offering the special schemes for their higher education. It has the facility of ATM also. Grahak Peth at Tilak Mandir, Lokmanya Seva Sangh Between 10th October & 19th October 2003, Lokmanya Seva Sangh, Parle has organized the Grahak Peth for 10 days. This exhibition and sales campaign has various features as it is their 20th year. All Grahak Peths do not have good response but one can be sure that at Tilak Mandir’s Grahak Peth, more and more people do visit and do ample shopping and get new products introduced to them. This year besides the new product stalls, there are stalls for home utilities and gift articles. In the women section, Imitation Jewellery, Sarees, Dress Material, Dresses and along with that readymade fashion blouses of various colours is the attraction, for men, shirts of different brands at reasonable rates, and for juniors-dresses, books, cassettes, CDs, magics material will be displayed. Bed sheets for homes, special new export quality towels, candles, agarbatti, perfumes and scents will be available for sale. Articles made by Physically and Mentally challenged children will also be available. Besides there will be fertilizers for the trees. There will be delicious eats at food stalls. The Thane Janata Sahakari Bank is the sponsor of this year Lokmanya Seva Sangh’s Grahak Peth. Majestic Library at Vile Parle The equation - Majestic and Books – has been embedded for years in the minds of readers. And with the wishes of lots of reader consumers, Majestic Agencies for last 25 years, after at Dadar and Dombivali, has started for the 3rd time its library on 19th June 2003 at Prathamesh Apt., 1st floor, behind United Western Bank, Mahant Road, Vile Parle (E). There a scheme of Smart Card where by reader can become a Smart Card holder on payment of Rs. 1500. Besides there are schemes of Majestic Book Club, Gift vouchers, Diwali Magazines gift scheme. Parleites have been giving good response to this. Anil Kothavale informs that Majestic people have called for an absolute necessary visit of consumer readers, Govt. recognised institutions, Schools and Colleges libraries to look with an open mind into the books on various subjects and then to make the purchases. Thakre Sports Complex’s glorious success On its 5th anniversary ‘Prabodhankar Thakre Sports Complex’ directed by Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial committee, had organized sports festival under the guidance of President Dr. Ramesh Prabhu. The players from the schools and sports institutions of Bandra to Dahisar participated. In the swimming competitions about 300 boys and girls took part. Out of these 135 were of Thakre Sports Complex and won 18 Gold, 10 Silver and 9 Bronze medals. In Judo, 20 contestants out of total 125, were of the complex and they had 4 Gold, 7 Silver and 4 Bronze. 35 players took part in Table Tennis, 11 of Thakre Sports Complex won the medals and in Gymnastics, the medal tally was 5 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze. ‘Parlekar new cable channel’ launched at Dassera Aamhi Parlekar and Orbit have been responsible for starting the ‘Parlekar’ Channel on Television on Dassera 4th October 2003. Literature, Music, Plays & Health will be topics for interesting programmes so as to suit the taste of Parleites. The time of presentation will be every Saturday evening 7.00 to 8.00 pm and Sunday morning 10.00 to 11.00 am. Crisp and colourful news of Parle and chats of youths will be the attraction. In Parle and its surrounding there are about 50,000 homes and 50% are Marathi speaking while other 40% are Gujarati speaking. So Gujarati programmes will also be organized. This channel should go a long way to add to the traditionally graceful and rich culture of Parle. The co-operation of one and all is expected and suggestions are welcome. Exhibition of Paintings of Artist Kelkar Mumbai’s reputed artist M. K. Kelkar’s 2nd edition of books will be published and along with that, his paintings’ will be displayed at Kalamandir, Prabodhankar Thakre Swimming Pool & Sports Complex, Shahaji Raje Marg, Vile Parle (E), on 16th October at 6.30 pm. The exhibition will be open to all till 20th October evening, free of charge. Anjali Bahgwat wins Khelratna Award Anjali Vedpathak Bhagwat, a resident of Vileparle and No.1 in rifle shooting, is to participate in the next Olympics. Yet earlier her name was not listed for this award but was later selected with the selection committee’s discretion. Anjali was not disheartened, disappointed, disturbed and if she moves on with the concentration, she should bring the gold medal to the country. Anjali, best wishes from all Parleites. Tilak Sports club wins Football Competition Utkarsha Mandal Vileparle (E), had sponsored Elgar Trophy Football tournament on 24th August at Vaman Mangesh Dubhashi Playground and in the finals Tilak Sports club beat Parlekar United in the tie-break 2 goals against 1. Earlier both the clubs had scored 2:2 in the match. In the semi finals Parlekar United had defeated Abhimanyu Team 5:1 and in other semi final Tilak Sports beat Point team 4:0. The winners of the tournament were (1) Best Player – Prasad Paranjpe (Tilak Sports Club) (2) Goal Keeper – Rigved Shirodkar (Abhimanyu Team) and (3) Highest Number of Goals – Ronak Sheth (Parlekar United) Utkarsh Mandal’s Football Camp – A Successful Event This camp was organized during 5th July to 20th July 2003 at Dr. Hedgewar Playgroung on Hanuman Road on every evening between 6 to 7.30 pm. 23 childern of the age group of 5th to 8th standard, participated. A football player at Mumbai district level and reputed football coach Mr. Albert Braganza trained the children while Mr. Mathew gave all the assistance. Sanjay Samant as best goalkeeper, Sumant Bhat as best defender and Ishan Ghanmade as best striker were felicitated. All children were given the certificates for participiton. That, fooball is much less played in Parle, this is an interesting activity of Utkarsha Mandal to give an opportunity to the children in the young age, on organizing such a camp. To add to the grace of Vile Parle East, two superdeluxe cinemahouse, Sun City now stand opposite Shaan Theatre. The accommodation capacity of each is 300 spectators. Advanced modern art sound system has been installed into these twin theatres. Machinery has been imported from renowned foreign companies. e.g. Screen from Belgium, seats with magnetic innovation so as to give comfort to all spectators including even heart patients. Both these theatres are very suitable for the premier shows of the movies. Mehul Vora gets recognition in Karate On 5th August Shihan Mehul Vora of worldwide reputation in Martial Arts had the honour of being ‘Graded’ from Grandmaster Shihan Hirano Osamu. He has been appointed as chief trainer in India for Marshal Arts Gojaryu and also as the only representative of Osamu. For the Gojaryu traditional martial arts event of Japan, Vora got 4th grade belt. Nekado Gojaryu American Federation has given him 6th grade belt. Thus in the history of Indian Karate, Vora becomes the youngest recipient of 6th grade belt at the age of 24th. With this honour Vora becomes Kyoshi which means super excellence in Master Art. Vora is also specialized in Judo and Kobudo. Vora has 16 training centres including that in Mumbai and more than thousand students have been trained and have developed the skills of this art. Shivaji Vidyalaya’s flag flying high Shivaji Vidyalaya of Vile Parle (East) has been known as the school for the students coming from low income group. And this year for the S.S.C. result, the passing percentage was highly significant i.e. 97.29%. Out of 111 who appeared, 108 passed. 1st rank Deepak Mestry, 2nd rank Amarjit Chaure, and 3rd rank Miss Shridha Sagwekar, got 75.33%, 73.33% and 69.60% marks respectively. Besides 8th other students got more than 60% marks. There names are as follows : (Miss) Rakhi Panchal – 66.13%, Darshan Dhuri – 65.46%, (Miss) Varsha Panchal – 65.20%, Nilesh Shinde – 65.20%, Deepak Rane – 62.40%, (Miss) Ashiwini Ambilkar – 62.13%, Vikas Sawant – 62.00% and Shaikh Abdul Rehman – 61.73%. This year’s results are the best in the history of the school, so far. Gitaye and Devrukhkar high on Mallkhamb In the Mallkhamb competitions held in a town in Portugal, Tushar Gitaye and Ganesh Devrukhkar bagged Silver and Gold medal respectively. These two of Vileparle are students of Prabodhankar Thakare Sports Complex and have also received prizes in swimming. Thakare Sports Complex is said to be giving membership to S.S.C. and H.S.C. Board merit rankers from Vileparle. Sport medals again shower Vileparle And this time it is Badminton. The 5th Rayan Interschool competitions held at Goregoan Sports club between 15th July to 19th July 2003, got a good response with 590 participants within the age group 10 -16 years. The prize distribution ceremony was at the hands of Mr. Pinto of Rayan group, Mr. Sham Agarwal, President, Goregoan Sports Club & Badminton player of international reputation - Mr. Sanjay Sharma. This time Parle Tilak & Madhavrao Bhagwat High School - boys & girls won 6 medals, Silver & Bronze. Last year Parle’s record was of 4. Moreover it was an overall exhibition of outstanding performance of all the parleites participated and this was despite Parle has no indoor badminton court. In fact the sports loving organisations in Vileparle should take initiative for meeting the need of at least 2 indoor badminton courts and this facility should provide Parle children to win the gold. Grit and Determination of At age 86, Mr. Vasudev Keshav Joshi gets through M.A. degree exam in Sanskrit of May 2003. It is a creditable performance and an impetus to many seniors and juniors. It also shows that 1) you can win if you have can-do sprit and 2) you are never too old to learn and achieve. A resident of Vileparle (E), staying in Parleshwar CHS, Mr. Joshi retired in 1975 from Mumbai Mahanagar Palika School at age 58. And at that age he graduated in B. com external. Thereafter for 20 years he did accounting jobs with co.op.hsg. societies. He had a strong liking for Sanskrit language and this is what his desire for knowledge could achieve for him. The achievement merits our sincere and hearty congratulations. A unique activity for the cause of Mandke Foundation With the desire to assist Mandke foundation drawing artists of Parle drew the instant pictures and cartoons of those who wished and the voluntary collection of Rs. 5523 was made. On 20th July seven drawing experts (Mr. Mankar, Mr. Mistry, Mr. Lawate, Dr. Nene, Mr. Bodhankar, Mr. Wairkar and Mr. Pawar) sat on the floor of Nine-to Nine Supermarket at Hanuman Road, Vileparle (E) from 10 am to 9.30 pm and painted pictures of 73 persons, most of whom were again Parleites, though some had come from as long as vashi.
Exhibition cum Sales campaign of handicraft articles Lokmanya Seva Sangh is organizing the above exhibition on account of Silver Jubilee year of Disha Karnabadhir Vidyalaya. On Saturday, 27th Sept. (timing 10am to 7pm) and on Sunday, 28th Sept. (timing 9am to 1pm). A no. of utility and gift articles will be displayed in this exhibition. Items include greeting cards, photo frames, embroidered handkerchiefs, flower-pots, bouquets, wall hangings, candles, dusters, office files etc. It deserves appreciation as being created by physically-handicapped. Aamhi Parlekar & Orbit Television Network are jointly starting soon on Doordarshan, ‘Parlekar Cable Channel’.
